The week before last the Fordville-Lankin-Park River Flyers girls basketball team took 3rd place in the Region 2 tournament, beating North Border in that game. They defeated Hatton-Northwood in the opening round but lost to Grafton in the semi-final putting them in the 3rd place game. Grafton lost to Thompson in the championship. Congratulations FLPR girls in a great season.
This week the Park River-Fordville-Lankin Aggies boys basketball team plays in the Region 2 tournament, facing Thompson Monday afternoon in the first round, after taking 3rd place in the District 4 tournament. Good luck to the boys in the regional tournament.

Larry Jamieson has joined our Horizon’s Program Steering Committee. He is Vice President of Operations with Northern Plains Railroad based out of Fordville. It will be good to have Larry on board as NPR is the largest employer in our city. He stated that his employees are excited about the potential of a housing unit with a wellness center being built in Fordville.

The Fordville Wellness Committee began planning a wellness fair for their community this spring. This sounds like an exciting event to include booths on various health and wellness issues. We hope the Fordville School will be host to this event - watch for many details to come! I love health and wellness fairs - there is always so much to learn!

On January 14th, Julie Gemmill, chair of Fordville Horizon Committee had the opportunity to visit Wellness Centers in Northwood and Thompson along with Jenna Markuson, director of Wellness Outreach Without Walls network. A grant recently received by First Care Health Center in Park River will assist Fordville and other rural Walsh County towns with funding to think about wellness and ways they can begin to provide services to community members. Part of this partnership between First Care Health Center, Walsh County Public Health and Altru Home Services will also provide a staff member to serve these rural communities over the next three years. This was a great opportunity to get to know Jenna and to see what other communities have done to provide wellness opportunities for their communities. It was a very worth while road trip!

Julie Gemmill, chair of the Fordville Horizon Wellness Committee, has been attending the monthly planning meetings in Park River representing the Fordville community as part of a partnership between First Care Health Center, Walsh County Public Health and Altru Home Services. Wellness Outreach Without Walls is the organization overseeing the HRSA grant awarded recently to First Care Health Center to promote wellness in rural communities through community partnerships. We are excited to have the opportunity to be part of this organization and hope to continue working with this group as a partner to establish a wellness program in the Fordville community.
